Experience:

Mr Stephens has worked solely as a forensic scientist since 1989. During this period he has undertaken research into the two main areas of Alcohol related cases and Handwriting / Document analysis.

Handwriting and Document Analysis

Mr Stephens is involved in ongoing research projects, and is currently studying at the London College of Graphology, for a Diploma in Graphology (The sister field to Forensic Handwriting analysis) . He has studied thousands of hand-written and machine generated documents and been invited as a guest speaker to lecture on various occasions including to the Forensic Science Society. He has also given evidence and been accepted in both civil and criminal courts as an expert witness. He has worked on the instructions of solicitors, insurance companies, trade unions, chartered accountants, health authorities, professional associations, and other private companies and individuals.

Alcohol related cases

Mr Stephens has carried out a number of experiments in both blood and breath alcohol levels in individuals. Having run the Camic mark 1 & 2 and Lion breath analysing devices in excess of 100 times during test conditions, he has had published an article on the new Camic Mark 2 device and its ability to detect petrol, in the Journal of the Forensic Science Society together with other related articles and papers. He has also carried out tests upon mouth alcohol, and the effects of various medical conditions upon an individual's ability to metabolise alcohol. Mr Stephens has prepared reports involving hundreds of BAC calculations and when required, given evidence in both Magistrate and Crown Courts. He has also acted upon the instructions of the Crown solicitor in relation to fatal levels of alcohol. He has lectured as part of the FAGIN course, a course of police surgeons to gain their DMJ, on breath, blood and urine alcohol levels along with the various methods of analysis, problems and the procedures involved.
