Dr. Peter Gregory

(Biological Evidence)

 

Dr. Gregory joined the Forensic Science Service in 1964 and remained there for 34 years until 1998. He worked as a biology case reporting officer, mainly involved with 'offences against the person cases.

The main evidence types include body fluids (blood, semen and saliva), hairs and fibres; also, less common evidence types include damage assessment (e.g. torn clothing and knife cuts), and the examination of wood, other plant material and soil.

The work can be divided into four parts:

  • Laboratory examination of items
  • Supervising the work of others
  • Reporting his findings in the form of witness statements
  • Appearing as a Witness in Court, Crown Courts, Coroner's Courts and Magistrates Courts
  • Dr. Gregory also, at the request of the Police, attended scenes of crimes to assist the investigating officers. These cases were mainly suspicious deaths or murders. Dr. Gregory is also aware of DNA profiling techniques.

    Dr. Gregory has held the positions of Head of Biology Division and Team Leader attached to serious crime team and he has participated in Police Training at the Wakefield Detective Training School.
