Mrs. Linzi Howarth BSc (Hons), MSc, LLB (Hons), CBiol, MSB

Linzi Howarth is our DNA, blood distribution and body fluid expert.  She has been a member of the Formedecon team since 2003.  Prior to this, Linzi was a DNA analyst employed by the Home Office Forensic Science Service based at the Wetherby laboratory, where she was extensively trained in all aspects of DNA profiling and was part of the world leading Low Copy Number DNA team.

Linzi has a BSc (Hons) degree in Biological Sciences and an MSc post-graduate degree in Criminal Investigation.  She subsequently obtained the Institute of Biology qualifications CBiol, and MSB.  Between 2005 and 2008, Linzi gained a Senior Status, LLB (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Teesside. 

Whilst at Formedecon Ltd, Linzi has dealt with a range of case work which has predominantly been offences against a person cases eg: Murder, rape assault etc.  She has conducted many cases involving bloodstained clothing, footwear and weapons where interpretation of bloodstaining patterns and distribution is required in addition to examination of trace evidence such as semen and saliva.  Linzi can review DNA findings and interpretation and also obtain and submit fresh samples for DNA testing. 

Linzi has been involved in many high profile cases, including working in Spain recovering DNA evidence in the case of a missing child and travelling to Dallas, Texas to oversee DNA work being carried out in a murder investigation.  She has attended and presented expert evidence in Crown Courts across the country, including the Old Bailey and written many reports used as evidence in Crown Courts and also Courts of appeal.  Linzi has examples of her casework peer reviewed and gained accreditation by the Council for the Registration of Forensic Practitioners, prior to this being disbanded.
