Michael Seed

Michael Seed joined our team of experts at Formedecon Ltd in 2014.

Prior to joining our team Michael was employed by Durham Constabulary.

In 1987 he successfully completed a Scenes of Crime Officer’s course, followed by a wide range of operational experience.

In 1991 he underwent training by Durham Constabulary and the Metropolitan Police as an evidence officer, to secure, preserve and present video and photographic evidence in riot and public order situations, major incidents and RTC situations and accidents.

Michael has served 5 years as a Police Air Observer at the North East Air Support Unit, in both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.  He was responsible for securing video and photographic evidence in a wide range of offences and RTC incidents and for the presentation of this evidence in court.  Whilst in this post he used a wide range of equipment including Tactical Communications Equipment, GPS, a wide range of camera equipment, and both Gyro –Stabilized and Infrared video, including microwave downlinks.

Between 2000 -2010 Michael was a member of the Force Technical Support Unit, (FTSU), where the objective was the capture, recovery and processing of video and audio evidence, to include the presentation of this in court proceedings.  Much of this was with Serious and Major Crime and was carried out covertly.

Qualifications and Training includes :

Until his retirement from the Police Force, Michael worked as an expert of the Home Office / ACPO cadre of digital video recovery, to be used in the event of major incidents, such as the London Bombings.  Michael has wide experience in the processing of images, such as brightness and contrast control, to improve quality and with video production using non- linear editing.  Also encompassing audio to remove or reduce unwanted background noise from audio recordings made in the most challenging of environments.

Michael has been involved in various court cases which involved the production of video recordings and photographs of the scene in serious RTC’s, following rather poor quality investigation by the prosecution.  The cases were discontinued by the CPS upon receiving the evidence produced by Michael and Formedecon Ltd.
